Flamenco Meets Maqam will bring their spellbinding fusion between Middle Eastern and flamenco Music to the stage on Spanish Sunday!
The Flamenco group led by Ignacio Lusardi Monteverde explore the shared DNA between Middle Eastern traditions and the soul of Spanish Flamenco.
Their performance bridges East and West by weaving together Maqams (traditional Arabic melodic modes) with Andalusian harmonies and ancient rhythms. The result is a musical tapestry that stretches from the courts of Babylon to the present day!
As well as Flamenco guitar the performance includes an Arabian Qanun – a 78-string zither!
The result is a rhythmic, dancing, hand-clapping feast that will truly set the stage on fire!
Bridging the roots of Flamenco
Ignacio Lusardi Monteverde is an acclaimed London-based guitarist and producer whose work frequently explores the historical roots of music.
He will be joined at the Purbeck Guitar Festival by Konstantinos Glynos, a master of the qanun. He will showcase the intricate relationship between Arabic melody and Spanish harmony.
The group is supported by the rhythmic precision of Demi Garcia Sabat and the evocative presence of Lourdes Fernandez.
